The Baltimore Ravens placed the franchise tag on star quarterback Lamar Jackson on Tuesday, answering two important questions in this long saga and prompting many more.
First and foremost, the biggest question leading up to this point has been whether the two sides would be able to reach a long-term deal prior to Tuesday's Franchise Tag deadline, thus avoiding the designation altogether. Clearly, that answer is no.

Yesterday the Baltimore Ravens used the non-exclusive franchise tag on Lamar Jackson. This means that Lamar's salary is $32 million compared to the exclusive tag of $45 million. It also means that other teams can now negotiate with Lamar on a contract. If Lamar were to sign one of those offer sheets, the Ravens would have five days to match that offer and keep Lamar. If the Ravens decide to not match an offer for Lamar, the team that signs the quarterback would send two first-round picks to the Ravens in compensation and keep Lamar.
