Saudi Arabia welcomes FIFA action against pirated sports channel

4 monthes ago   |   By Yahoo Sports

Saudi Arabia on Thursday welcomed a move by soccer's governing body FIFA to take legal action against television channel beoutQ for illegally broadcasting the 2018 World Cup, saying it would support the kingdom's efforts to combat piracy. FIFA said in a statement on Wednesday that it had engaged counsel to take legal action in Saudi Arabia against beoutQ and was working alongside other sports rights owners that have also been affected to protect its interest. Saudi Arabia's media ministry said the FIFA decision would "supplement the relentless efforts by the KSA Ministry of Commerce and...

Pogba's keeping it simple as France poised to win World Cup

France's 1-0 victory over Belgium in Tuesday's semifinal was one of those days when you wondered whether the same people had watched the same game. A member of FIFA's technical study group, speaking informally to a reporter, put it like this: "If he had a different name on the back of his shirt, he would not be playing. He has not been at his level in this tournament." Not long thereafter, France boss Didier Deschamps was asked to sum up the very same player's performance. He called him "monstrous," adding that the player in question was "strong, creative, accurate, intelligent and one of...

There have been no positive results from over 3,000 anti-doping tests carried out before and during the World Cup, FIFA said on Thursday. FIFA may expand 2022 World Cup in Qatar

4 monthes ago   |   By Yahoo Sports

Watching the 2018 World Cup in the United States of America this summer promised to be a torturous thing. It has been anything but. With the U.S. not qualifying for a World Cup for the first time since 1986, many wondered if the general public, or even general sports fans, would take much notice. Would bars even open early? How exactly would a soccer lover get their fix? How wrong they could have been. Over the past few weeks I've traveled across the USA and the Caribbean, watching games in bars in New York City, sports books in huge casinos and airport lounges as small taverns in rural...
