England manager Gareth Southgate has decided on his 23-man squad for the World Cup in Russia. The former Middlesbrough boss, who guided England's Under-21's to glory at the Toulon Tournament two summers ago, will hope to exceed expectations and take England to the business end of the competition. Southgate had said that his squad for Russia would not contain any surprises, but according to the Goal Pressure Index, presented by Sure and powered by Opta, a few rather left-field names should have found themselves on the plane to Russia.

PA Sport Trent Alexander-Arnold has revealed Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp informed him he had been included in England's World Cup squad. The uncapped 19-year-old has been called up by Gareth Southgate ahead of the tournament in Russia. Alexander-Arnold has impressed at full-back for Liverpool this season and is expected to start their Champions League final meeting with Real Madrid next weekend. Wilshere confirms England World Cup 2018 squad rejection with holiday tweet

Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere has intimated that he has been left out of England's World Cup 2018 squad, having playfully accepted an offer of a holiday to Greece from a stranger on Twitter. The 26-year-old has not appeared for the Three Lions since Euro 2016, but appeared to be in the running for a place on the plane to Russia. World Cup 2018 squads have been revealed by many of the 32 teams involved in June and July's finals this week, with Gareth Southgate to name his 23-man on Wednesday.
