Pizarro left off Peru's World Cup squad despite Guerrero ban

LIMA, Peru - Peru coach Ricardo Gareca left veteran striker Claudio Pizarro off his World Cup squad on Wednesday despite top scorer Paolo Guerrero being suspended for doping.
The 39-year-old Pizarro had been touted as a possible replacement for Guerrero but Watford's Andre Carrillo and Lokomotiv Moscow's Jefferson Farfan were picked to spearhead the attack instead.
Guerrero was ruled out after the Court for Arbitration of Sport increased his ban from six to 14 months on Monday. The normal team captain tested positive for a metabolite of cocaine after Peru's World Cup qualifier against...

Peru president urges help for Guerrero to fight WCup ban

LIMA, Peru - Peru President Martin Vizcarra wants state authorities to help Paolo Guerrero try to overturn a doping ban which forces the national team captain to miss the country's first World Cup in 36 years.
Vizcarra asked the government and Peru's ambassador to Switzerland on Wednesday to be ready to help Guerrero challenge his ban at the Swiss supreme court.
Guerrero can ask federal judges to study a ruling announced on Monday by the Swiss-based Court of Arbitration for Sport which banned him until January for a positive test for cocaine metabolites.
