Red Sox Notes: Alex Cora Laments Missed Opportunities Against Phillies

6 monthes ago   |   By NESN

The Red Sox looked to be trending in the right direction after winning five straight games, including a sweep of the Baltimore Orioles.
But then the Philadelphia Phillies came to town.
Boston was ahead 2-0 on Wednesday night until things fell apart and Philly took a 3-2 lead en route to an eventual 5-2 win at Fenway Park to complete the two-game sweep.
The Red Sox had chances to take the lead or tie the game in the fourth when they loaded the bases, and again in the eighth when they had runners on second and third. But they came up short each time and were unable to put the ball in play...

Alex Cora Pinpoints One Reason Red Sox's Bats Went Cold Vs. Phillies

6 monthes ago   |   By NESN

The Red Sox fell to the Phillies in the series finale of their short two-game set at Fenway Park on Wednesday.
Boston's bats went cold during its inter-league meeting with Philadelphia, and manager Alex Cora cited an expansion of the zone as part of the problem. Rather than waiting for pitches in the heart of the strike zone, Cora says the Red Sox have stretched toward the edges.
“It seems like we've expanded the zone a little bit, he said. “Usually we hunt pitches in the middle of the zone, and when they're there we do damage with it and we stay away from the edges.”

Red Sox Wrap: Boston Swept Out Of Fenway Park With 5-2 Loss Vs. Phillies

6 monthes ago   |   By NESN

This was not how the Red Sox expected their series to go with the Phillies.
After losing 3-2 on Tuesday night, Boston took an early 2-0 lead but squandered it in the fifth to get swept by Philadelphia 5-2 on Wednesday at Fenway Park.
Rick Porcello got through four innings without issue before a three-run fifth ended his night and now is 11-10 on the season with a 5.49 ERA.
The Red Sox collected eight hits, left the bases loaded in the fourth and had runners in scoring position in the eighth, but never could take advantage.
With the loss, the Red Sox dropped to 67-62, while the Phillies...

Jackie Bradley Jr. always seems to give the Red Sox a boost when they need it.
The Boston outfielder upped his team's lead to 2-0 in the second inning when he took Philadelphia Phillies starter Drew Smyly just deep enough at Fenway Park.
Take a look at Bradley's 16th home run of the season:
